Terox HP Series Pin Installation Proceedures.
Tools Needed
- Mag powder or dye penetrant (to locate entirety of crack)
- Terox HP Series Pins
- Drill Bit (correct size matching pin size)
- Terox HP Taps
- Terox HP Spot Facer
- Terox Spacing Block (optional)
- Tap Fluid (we recommend AnchorLube)
- Brake Cleaner/Solvent
- Loctite thread locker
Find The Crack
Using mag powder and a magnet, dust the area to find the crack. Then mark it with a marker, both the starting and stopping poing.
Drill Your First Hole
Starting at the top, drill your first hole close to the edge using the correct drill bit associated with the pins you are using.
Using the Drill Jig
Place the drill jig pilot pin in the top hole you just drilled. Line up the drill jig parallel with the line of your crack. Drill the next hole. Recheck the line of your crack and drill the third hole. Continue moving the jig down the line of the crack until you have drilled holes in succession down the crack.
*Be sure your last hole after ends after the end of the crack line. This ensures you stop the crack from spreading
Using the Spot Facing Tool
Once the holes are drilled with the jig, you now need to countersink the shoulder area into the hole using the spot facing tool.
You want to drill a countersink area about half the thickness of the shoulder on your pin you will install. For thinner castings be careful not to apply too much pressure as you can easily cut too much.
*Remember its always better to do small cuts first to ensure you don't go too deep and cut too much.
Tap the Hole
Next you are ready to tap the hole with the custom tap that matches the pin.
Be sure to use plenty of tapping fluid. We recommend AnchorLube as it holds on to your tap well.
Let the tap go in a turn or two and then back out slightly to let the shavings out slighly. Continue with an in and out motion until your hole is tapped all the way through.
Clean the Hole - Part 1
After you are finished with the tap, clean out the hole well with brake cleaner. Be sure to get plenty of fluid all around to clean out the threads.
*This step is crucial for inserting your pins!
Clean the Hole - Part 2
Blow out the hole with air to again ensure all the threads are free of debris
Insert the Pin
Once your threads are clean, test your pin to ensure it seats all the way. If it doesn't, chase out the threads with your tap, or spray the hole again with brake cleaner and air. Then retest your pin to ensure a good fit.
If your pin fits nicely, then apply some red thread lock to the threads, hand tighten your pin until its stops. Using a socket wrench tighten the pin until tight. Once its fully seated, the head will torque off at the specific ft-lb/in.
Hammer the Ends
Once all your pins are in with thread lock, hammer the heads to make sure they fully seat and crush against the block.
Grind Off the Heads
Grind off the heads of your pins so make them flush against the block.
This step prepares your block surface for the next set of stitching pins that go in between the ones you just installed.
Repeat the Process
Repeat the process by drilling holes in between the pins you just installed.
Drill, countersink, tap, clean, and install pins.
